Thirty years ago, a black teen, Yusuf Hawkins was fatally shot after being chased by a white mob in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. The murder tore the neighborhood and an already racially polarized city- apart. Today that tragedy, and the Hawkins family’s long fight for justice, has gained new resonance. A new HBO documentary “Yusuf Hawkins: storm over Brooklyn”, revisits the 1989 murder incident.
