How cool is that?
Okay, wait a minute.
I was told I only get a little bit of time, a little bit of time to hang out with you, so, I'm going to have to talk a little bit fa-- I won't talk that fast, but I hear we get to talk about math.
Math is one of my favorite things.
I love to count.
I love to measure.
Speaking of measure, I think we should measure today.
Mm-hmm.
I think we should find the perimeter of an object.
You ever heard of perimeter?
Really cool word, that word perimeter!
It's a math word.
It simply means measure the outside.
I measure this side, get a number.
Measure this side, get a number.
I add them together.
Measure this side, get a number.
Measure this side, get a number.
I add them together.
I add it all together!
That's all perimeter is.
Add all sides together.
By the way, I heard that today was [ Clears throat ] Slipper Day!
Let's measure in slippers.
Well, usually, in math, we don't measure in slippers.
We usually measure in inches or centimeters or... ...feet?
That's what made me think of slippers.
Okay!
Before you even ask, the answer's yes, I made it all by myself, yes.
It's a rectangle made out of -- you guessed it -- pool noodles!
Check this out.
That side right there is the exact same length as that side.
Since they are the same length, That's going to be really helpful.
Now, watch this.
Here we go!
1 slipper!
Alright, I know we can fit another one.
2 slippers!
Oh, my gosh!
I think we can keep going!
3 slippers!
Whoa!
Hm, now that I know that this side measures 3 slippers, then guess what else I know?
That this side over here also measures three slippers.
And... Whoa!
Somebody just said it.
But to find perimeter, we have to add all the sides together.
So, now, let's go measure the other two.
Okay, I can see this side is longer, but I still want to count carefully.
There's 2 slippers.
Here's 3.
4 slippers.
I can fit one more.
This side can hold 5 slippers.
Yep, you guessed it -- this side is going to help me know the other side.
If this side is 5, then that side is also 5 and, together, they make -- Somebody said it again.
All the sides are measured.
[ Singsong ] Let's put them together.
Okay, so, we had 10 slippers and we have 6 slippers because 3, 3 -- 6; 5, 5 -- 10.
I have to put them all together.
So, 10 with the 6...?
Uh-huh, somebody said it.
Somebody said it!
I heard you.
[ Clears throat ] ...slippers.
So, let's remember -- we don't normally measure in [ Whispering ] slippers, but, because today is Slipper Day!, we got to measure slippers and it was fun.
At least, for me, it was.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Anywho... Perimeter -- add all sides together.
