Presidents from every Kentucky public university gathered in Frankfort today.
They spread through the Capitol to talk with legislators about the issues important to college students.
But a plethora of meetings with all kinds of different representatives around our state capitol.
And we're going to be trying to meet with our local representatives to achieve the things that will best benefit our university.
But the student body, since that, it's not really one of those things where we're kind of, you know, lobbying on behalf of the university.
In a way, it's more of lobbying on behalf of our student body, things that we believe that are impacting our student body.
And so a great example of that is the legislation that a large majority of our student body here under that we represent is against that piece of legislation.
So I was respectfully meeting with our state legislators representatives, explaining to them our thoughts on that and give them kind of the student perspective that that ultimately sometimes it just seems to be a little bit forgotten.
And so the whole point of this rally is just to meet with those representatives and just explain our point of view on those things.
So they can have a just and ultimately well-rounded decision and making these really important decisions.
And in fact, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, one of the things that I can 100% guarantee that we're very unified around is mental health issues in Kentucky was seen by a presence.
We all kind of gotten together and realized some big effect that mental health has on college students.
And so that's going to be one of our main unified points that we've all shared documents with each other.
We've done research based off the bodies of historic colleges.
We've share it with each other.
We have unified efforts to try to help combat the mental health crisis affecting so many of our students.
So we do have a few different meetings scheduled for this morning, talking about a lot of college affordability, which is a hot topic in Kentucky and across the United States right now, is making sure.
That college is affordable for all students and that so that everyone can see the value of higher education and the value of getting that degree.
We're just hoping that those continued efforts can be approved by everyone here and that we can continue to rally for more affordability so that every college student or college aid student in Kentucky or even high school students can benefit from our great education system and ultimately stay in state, the better benefit our commonwealth and the future.
I think that students have one of the strongest voices from the perspective of We are the future of tomorrow.
So we will be the people that are looking to take on these positions going forward.
But I think it's also important to talk about a firsthand witness.
We're living in college experience right now and can tell you better than anyone else what's going on on campus and the problems that are facing students.
So that's why I think it's so important that we're here and to be able to advocate for the things that students need most.
Lawmakers have drafted a resolution recognizing October 10th as higher education Mental Health Day in Kentucky.
The resolution is waiting to be heard on the House floor.
